PRESQUE ISLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's golf program has announced their first new recruit for 2026 with the addition of Luke Tataryn (Peterborough, Ontario / St. Peter Catholic Secondary School) to the Owls roster.
Tataryn joins the program following a successful high school golf career in Ontario. A varsity golfer throughout his time at St. Peter Catholic Secondary School, Tataryn consistently performed at a high level and established himself as one of the program's top competitors.
During his high school career, Tataryn earned team MVP honors in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons and recorded a number of strong tournament performances. His accomplishments include seven top-five finishes over the past two seasons, a playoff victory in a high school regional event, and top-10 finishes in all high school events during the 2025 season. His lowest tournament round during that stretch was a 71, and he currently holds a 1.3 handicap index.
Tataryn says he is looking forward to the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level with the Owls.
"I'm incredibly excited to join UMPI and be a part of the golf program. I'm looking forward to competing at the next level and contributing to the team's success," said Tataryn.
Tataryn plans to major in Business Administration at UMPI.
His high school coach, Shana Kelly, praised Tataryn's dedication and work ethic.
"Luke is a hardworking player who believes that better never stops," said Kelly. "His dedication to finding and following a process that leads to success is admirable. Luke will be missed by his team in Canada, but we are excited to see what he and Coach Boone can accomplish together at UMPI."
