CASCO, ME
The Owls golf team came off an impressive performance in their first match as they took second place in the home event last Friday. On Wednesday they traveled to Casco to play in the Queenan Memorial hosted by St. Joseph's College of Maine.
It was a different feel through the first nine for everybody as the course challenged the Owls greatly. UMPI went off number 10, and all shot 40 or worse on the first nine, the inverse of what they did Friday: all shooting 40 or better. The second nine was better overall, as the Owls bounced back to salvage a team score of 326.
One again leading the pack was freshman Lucas Tataryn. He finished with a 77, just one stroke worse than his 76 before, proving his consistency atop the UMPI lineup. He birdied back to back holes on the par four fifth and sixth holes. His first nine was a 41, but an even par 36 on the second nine helped him finish at just five over.
Not far behind Tataryn was sophomore Luke Beidelman. Last year he played more than solid golf, improving with each passing round. Wednesday was no exception. He finished with a 78 after a 40 and 38 nine split. He picked up birdies on the par five number one and par four sixth.
Jaxson Sockbeson finished with an 85 after a rocky first nine and Kamden Morlock finished at 86 with a very similar round trajectory.
Matthew Pelletier and Avery Thibodeau each competed for the Owls, with Pelletier taking an 86 and Thibodeau a 91.
