LITCHFIELD, ME
It was the ideal start for Coach Mike Boone's squad as they travelled down to Litchfield to open up their 2025 season. The Owls competed with golfers from University of Maine Augusta and Kennebec Valley Community College. The Owls handled the short but tricky golf course with a lot of poise as they posted a score of 326, the lowest score the golf program has posted since the UMPI Invitational back in 2014.
Top Performers:
In his first year at UMPI, Avery Thibodeau led the Owls with his round of 77. Playing as the number 2, Thibodeau got off to a rocky start, doubling holes two and three before settling down, going three over on his next six holes to be out with a 41. The back nine is when Thibodeau really did his damage. He finished the back with six pars and a birdie on the par 4 12th holes, to be in with a 36 for a total score of 77.
Senior veteran Spencer Harman had a solid round, that also started off less than ideal, going five over through his first three. Harman salvaged the front nine with three pars over his next four holes and then a birdie on the par 3 8th hole to be out with a 41. Harman added another birdie on hole 12 like Thibodeau and three more pars to finish with a 12 over 81.
Dawson Whitten played steady golf all day long, going 42 on both the front and back with four pars good for an 84, while newcomer Luke Beidelman had more of an up and down round, with eight pars, but also turning in an 84.
All-in-all the Owls took advantage of the shorter course and minimized the damage all day as they had just one triple bogey as a team, and no single hole score higher than seven. When the dust settled, they finished with a team score of 326 and finished thirty strokes ahead of KVCC who had a 356. UMA's three golfers competed as individuals for the day.

UMPI will look to continue their good golf this weekend when they travel to the Husson Invitational this Saturday at Bangor Municipal.
