PORTLAND, ME
The UMPI Golf team returned to competitive action on Sunday when they competed in the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Portland, ME. UMPI posted another score in the low 340s at 342, which is becoming their round average this season, despite that being the record low for the past few seasons. In the end however, they finished tied for last place with University of Maine at Farmington as a lot of big schools from big conferences competed in the 10 team event.
Top Performers:
Leading the Owls once again was rookie Matthew Pelletier, who finished with an 83 thanks to an outstanding front nine score of 39. It didn't start off hot for Pelletier however, who doubled Hole number one—a 451 yard par five. Pelletier was able to compartmentalize and recover nicely, rattling five pars in a row after, and only one hole the rest of the front nine did he bogey. On the back, Pelletier ran into a little trouble, but still salvaged a back score of 44, finishing with his solid 83 mark.
Garrett Chadwick and Luke Beidelman were next, each posting an 85 with 41/44 splits. Chadwick also ran into trouble on the first hole, taking an eight, but recovering from there. He'd turn in UMPI's only birdie of the day with a three on the par four 14th hole. Beidelman finished with six pars on the day for his career low score of 85 as he improves by a couple strokes it seems, every round he plays in. Avery Thibodeau was out with a 41 and in with a 48 for his total of 89, keeping all four of UMPI's scorers in the 80's.
Next Up:
The Owls wrap up their regular season and will now focus toward the North Atlantic Conference Championship which will be held next Saturday and Sunday down in Cobleskill, New York.
