AUGUSTA, ME
Owls Golf continued to make strides in their game Tuesday when they hit the links for the third time since Saturday at the Mariner Invitational at Augusta Country Club. The Owls posted a 335—their second lowest score of the season and beat out University of Maine at Farmington and Saint Joseph's College to finish in 6th place.
Top Performers:
It was once again Matt Pelletier for the Owls, that stole the show posting a team-low score of 80—good enough for a T-20th finish. Pelletier was very consistent all day, although his day started a bit rocky with a double-bogey on the very tricky first hole. From there he made five pars on the rest of his front nine including one birdie: a three on the par four fourth hole. On the back, he made four more pars and was left with a bad taste in his mouth, having doubled the 18th hole. But he was in with an impressive 10 over par score of 80 to lead the Owls.
Garrett Chadwick followed closely behind with an 82, though it was a more up and down round for Chadwick. He made four doubles throughout the day but salvaged it with three birdies. He also had six pars for a 39/43 split.
Spencer Harman put together another nice round in the mid 80's with an 86. He either birdied or bogeyed his first eight holes before registering his first par on the ninth hole to be out with a 39. On the back he ran into a bit of trouble getting stuck on the double bogey train but still salvaged a solid score of 88 thanks to a very solid front nine. Luke Beidelman was right behind Harman, in his second ever start, posting an 87 with a pair of birdies, as he too ran into trouble on the back. Â
Next Up:
The Owls will shift their focus to their only home match of the season now, as they host the UMPI Invitational on Thursday to kick off homecoming week for the University. Six other teams are expected to make the trip up, making it the biggest collegiate golf event Presque Isle has seen in years.
