Owls Fall in Conference Doubleheader

New York, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls lose both conference games against Baruch College Bearcats. Losing game one 8-4 and game two 15-5. The Owls fall to 0-8 in the CUNYAC conference. 

While the Owls were shut out in the first three innings, the Bearcats came out strong with a double by Edwin St. Hilaire in the first bringing two runs in.  Another hit by St. Hilaire in the third gave Baruch a 3-0 lead.  UMPI came alive in the fourth and fifth innings as Bradley Patterson (Harker Heights, TX) and Angel Morales (Windsor, CT) each brought in a run to cut the Bearcats lead to one.

Baruch pulled away in the bottom of the fifth scoring four more runs. Angel Acevedo started with a single to bring in a run. Davic Capellan followed with a triple to bring in two more runs, another run coming by a SAC bunt, 7-2 Bearcats lead.  Patterson hit another double in the sixth to bring two more runs in for the Owls to close the gap.  One more run in the sixth for the Bearcats ended the scoring for the game, as Paul Sirakowski earns the win on the mound. 

Game two belonged to the Bearcats as they came out fast with a 3-0 lead after the first inning.  Runs coming off a single, double and a SAC fly. Matt Cauchon's (Kingston, MA) SAC fly in the third closed the gap for the Owls, bringing Morales home.  A big rally in the third extended Baruch's lead. Two doubles, a triple, and a single brought in five runs. A homer by Gerardo Roque added the other three of the eight run inning for the Bearcats. 

Another run in the fifth inning scored for Baruch to give them a 12-1 lead.  Matt Curry singled in the sixth to bring in a run and start a rally for the Owls. Patterson scored off some good base running and an error by the Bearcats.  Colby Spencer (Fairfield, NC) doubled to bring in a run, while Will Stinson (Skowhegan, ME) followed with a SAC fly to bring another in. The Owls cut the lead to five.

The Bearcats offense was too much for the Owls as they tacked on three more runs in the sixth.  Ryan Warner earned the win on the mound for Baruch.

The Owls finish their weekend road trip against Fisher College tomorrow April 1st. The first game of this double header starts at 2:00 PM while the second follows at 4:00 PM.
