Baseballs Adds All-Around Utility Player to 2027 Roster

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

Head Baseball Coach Tim Burns has announced another commitment to his ever-growing roster for the 2027 season. Roland Boyd, a utility player and pitcher has announced his intention to play for the Owls.

Boyd is a native of Columbia, South Carolina where he graduated from Cardinal Newman Catholic School. He put up very solid career numbers in high school, boasting a .304 career average to go with 34 RBI, as well as having a 2.87 Earned Run Average over nearly 50 innings on the mound. He was named the team Cy Young back in 2023, showing his ability to make a difference in every facet of the game.

His head coach Robert Hendrix echoed that sentiment. "Roland was our Swiss army knife of the team. I can't wait to see how successful he'll be at the collegiate level.

"I'm excited to continue playing the game I love and help this team win no matter where I am on the field," Boyd said.

Head Coach Tim Burns is looking forward to see how he competes for a spot this coming fall. "Roland is another exciting young prospect that will have a great impact on the roster immediately. His abilities on the mound and as a utility player will prove to be very versatile for us. He also has great speed, which plays right along with our offense and the other great baserunners that he's now paired up with. Hailing from South Carolina where there's plenty of great ball, we believe he'll take no time adjusting to the college level, Burns said.

Boyd intends to study Nursing beginning this fall.
