PRESQUE ISLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Head Baseball Coach Tim Burns has wasted no time in securing athletes for his 2027 roster as the Owls program continues to make. Coach Burns announces the signing of Max Richter, a two-way corner-infielder and pitcher from Millville, New Jersey. He attended Millville High School – the same school that MLB superstar Mike Trout graduated from.
Richter is a 2026 graduate and has stood out on every team he's played for. In the fall of 2025, he batted .375, while boasting a 1.194 On Base Plus Slugging Percentage (OPS). He also flourished on the mound in that same season, striking out 15 batters in eight innings as a relief pitcher.
Richter has been a captain on both his high school and summer ball teams, showcasing his ability to lead with both his talent and his character. Richter's high school coach, Val Forbes weighed in on him. "What truly separates Max, however, is his character and dedication. He is a hardworking athlete who embraces coaching, puts in extra work, and approaches the game with a team-first mentality. Max understands accountability, leadership, and what it takes to compete at a high level. He is the type of player who raises the standard of the players around him," Coach Forbes said.
Richter is pleased to be able to pursue baseball at the next level. "I am super excited to be a part of UMPI's Baseball Team, college ball has been a dream of mine and I am happy to be a part of such a great program and team. I am ready to come in and start grinding with a great group of guys," Richter said.
"I'm beyond excited to land Max here with us. He's a stud two-way player that will make an impact on the roster immediately. He comes from a high level baseball area, and high level baseball high school, that gives us the utmost confidence in his abilities. He accompanies his abilities with great character and a great personality that always makes a coach excited," Coach Tim Burns said.
Richter will attend UMPI this fall and begin studying in the Business Administration program.
