Homegrown talent from Aroostook County has found its way to UMPI again as former Hodgdon Hawk Michael Fitzpatrick announces his commitment to play Baseball and Soccer for the Owls.
Fitzpatrick is a 2026 graduate from Hodgdon High School and was a standout three-sport athlete for the Hawks, shining most on the baseball field, while he also displayed great versatility on the soccer pitch as well.
Fitzpatrick was a key piece for four years on the diamond, playing in 63 games, while posting a stellar career average of .379 with a 1.022 OPS. On the mound he was excellent as well, tossing 114.1 innings over his career, striking out 127 batters and posting a 3.50 ERA.
In soccer, Fitzpatrick was a field player for his first three years where he scored 15 goals, before converting to Goalkeeper for his senior season as he posted four shutouts in his first full-year at that demanding position.
It's no surprise that Fitzpatrick brought home plenty of accolades that included multiple All-Aroostook nods in Baseball and one in Soccer, was named to the Class D all-region team his senior season of soccer and was a senior all-star in both sports this past year.
Fitzpatrick's baseball coach and Hodgdon Athletic Director Seth Dorr spoke about Michael. "Michael is a hardworking player who gives his best effort every time he steps on the field. He's a great teammate who can lead in a variety of ways and he always puts the team's success first. UMPI has inked not only a great player but a dedicated young man with strong character and a true love for the game," Dorr said.
Head Baseball Coach Tim Burns also spoke on a lot of the same things Dorr did. "[Michael] is some of the best that northern Maine has to offer as an athlete, and I'm more than excited to add more local talent to our athletics programs. Being the athlete that he is, he can do numerous things very well and will be another big impact on our roster. He showed heart, effort, and grit in his time at Hodgden, and we can't wait to see him around campus," Burns said.
Fitzpatrick intends to study Business Administration at UMPI beginning this fall.
