Owls Come Up Short in First Conference Double Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Presque Isle, ME – The Owls show their offensive ability in a double header against Lehman College.  A late game comeback by the Owls was not enough as they fall 18-12 in the fist game.  The second game goes to the Lightning 17-6.

The Lightning would come out strong with a three run homer by Carlo Francisco in the first.  Followed by run by Mark Vargas on a throwing error, making the score 4-0.  A double by Francisco in the second would bring two more runs in.  Vargas would give the Lightning their second homer that brought in two runs, 8-0.  Three more run by Lehman in the third make the score 11-0 in the end of the third.

Matt Cauchon's (Kingston, MA) homerun to right field would be the Owls first homer of the year and end the scoring drought.  Austin Coulston's (Bullhead City, AZ) single to right field would bring Jesus Garcia (Jewett City, CT) and Ryan Sanderson (Cow Bay, NS) home, to make the score 11-3 in the top of the fourth.  An error by UMPI and another two run homer by the lightning in the bottom of the fourth stretched the lead to 15-3.

In the fifth and sixth inning the Owls offense came to life.  Back to back doubles by Will Stinson (Skowhegan, ME) and Cauchon each score a run.  Garcia would add a single bringing in Jordan Hanscom (Lincoln, ME) and Cauchon to end the Owls four run fifth, 15-7.  Matt Curry (Caribou, ME) singled in the sixth bringing in a run, while Hanscom was walked bringing Curry home.  An error by the Lightning catcher and second baseman brought three more runs in for the Owls making the score 15-12.

The Owls comeback would end there; the Lightning double and single in the bottom of the sixth brought three runs in before the game ended in the seventh.

The second game started with another two homerun by Francisco in the first. Bradley Patterson (Harker Heights, TX) would answer with a solo shot to right center field in the third making the score 2-1, Lightning lead.  A rally in the third by Lehman would give them a 9-1 lead; runs came off five doubles and a single.

Saul Nunez's (Mapleton, ME) double in the fourth brought Sanderson home adding one for the Owls.  Another strong offensive effort in the fourth by the Lightning stretched the lead to 17-2.  Curry doubled in the fifth to bring in a run, along with a triple by Sanderson and a single by Keanu Vincente (Pawtucket, RI), each bringing in a run.  Although, the Owls late game efforts were not enough as the Lightning finish the game in seven.

The Owls finish their spring road trip with three more games.  Saturday double-header vs. CCNY, games at noon and 2:00 PM; and at Staten Island this Sunday at 1:00 PM.
