Shutout Helps Owls Win First of Season

Box Score

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer Team (1-6-1) got their first win of the season by beating the Central Maine Community College Mustangs (1-5) in USCAA play.

The Owls did their damage in the first half, as Derek Healy (SR, Hanover, MA) would put them ahead in the 13th minute.  Just seven minutes later, sophomore Cody Blair (Ashland, ME) would add to it, with an unassisted goal of his own.  The Owls would outshoot the Mustangs 13-1 in the first half, and Healy would add his second goal in the 41st minute to add to the cushion for UMPI.

In the second half the visitors had the wind in their face, but CMCC was unable to take advantage.  They did manage to get five shots in that timeframe to the Owls three, but just one of them was on goal, as the Owls would get a 3-0 win.  AJ Dolley (SR, Whiting, ME) earned the shut out vicotry in goal.

"It was a great team victory," Head Coach Alan Gordon said of his team's effort.  "The defense held up strong earning the shutout."

The Owls travel to Boston to play Wheelock College at noon on Sunday.
