Box Score CASTINE, ME – The UMPI Men's Soccer team (0-5) got shutout on the road on Sunday. Maine Maritime Academy (1-2-1) earned their first win of the season with a 5-0 win at home.
It took until the 29th minute for the Mariners to crack the scoreboard. Freshman Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, ME) scored his first of two goals on the day to get the home team started. Evan Backus (FR, Farmington, ME) would score an unassisted goal in the 34th minute to send the game to the break with MMA ahead 2-0.
The second half would be more of the same as the Mariners would put the game away with three goals. Maine Maritime Academy would outshoot the Owls 27-11 in the contest. Keeper Joshua Reeks (SO, Bedford, NH) would earn the shutout and was credited with six saves on the game.
The Owls will look to change their fortunes next weekend as they travel to Unity College on Friday for a 4:30 match. They then host Fisher College on Sunday at 2 PM.
