UMPI Seniors Compete in Last Home Game

Box Score

PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls hosted the Fort Kent Bengals in what would be the last home game for two seniors.  The Bengals, ranked #3 in the USCAA, won 8-0.

Caleb Bragg-Grady (SR, Whitefield, ME) and Joshua Cross (SR, Brennan, ME) stepped on to Park Family Field for their last scheduled home game on Wednesday.  Cross, a midfielder, has become an integral member of the Owls team this season.  Early season injuries have increased the importance of Cross on the field and off.  Bragg-Grady is in his third season as the starting keeper for the Owls.  In 2014 he was named to the AD3I All-Conference Second team, and was the player of the week in AD3I for the week ending on September 21st.  He currently has a 75.4 save percentage for the season.

A steady rain fell throughout the game, making conditions less than ideal.  The two teams played the first 34+ minutes to a draw, with both getting opportunities getting looks at a goal.  Bragg-Grady made several athletic saves while keeping the potent Bengals off the board in the early going.  UMFK would net their first goal at 34:46, and it would change the tide of the game.  From that point on the Bengals would be in full control, limiting the Owl's opportunities, and aggressively assaulting the home net.  Five different Fort Kent players would combine to score eight goals, as the Bengals improved to 11-2 on the season.

The Owls will hit the road this weekend as they travel to St. Joseph's College in Vermont on Saturday, and Vermont Tech on Sunday.
