Gabriel Wheeler had himself a dream first week as a college baseball player. The UMPI baseball team won three of four this weekend, giving them the first known 3-1 start in the history of the program. Wheeler was the most instrumental bat in their successful weekend, especially so in game two of their comeback victory of Lehman College on Sunday afternoon. Wheeler finished the week hitting .462, with a double, triple, and a home run and 9 RBI. His OPS sits at 1.511. In game 2 at Lehman, Wheeler went 4-5 with seven RBI, a double and a game-winning grand slam when the Owls were down to their last out. With this weekend performance, Wheeler was voted Player, and Rookie of the Week for the North Atlantic Conference, and is the first baseball player to ever win a weekly award since UMPI joined the NAC in 2018.
