Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, ME – A 27-9 third quarter boosted the Alfred State Pioneers (9-14) over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (4-19) by a score of 70-53.
The Owls held the lead for a good portion of the first quarter by shooting 57.1% from three point land. Alfred State was able to reclaim the lead by shooting eight of 16 from the floor as both teams came out hot. The Owls would cool down in the second quarter, but were able to get to the free throw line and connect on ten of eleven from the charity stripe.
The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game. The Pioneers would shoot 73.3% from the floor, including three of five from the three point arc. The Owls would shoot just three of ten as Alfred State would outscore their hosts 27-9 to build a 19 point lead. While UMPI would cut into that lead in the fourth quarter, it proved to be insurmountable and the Pioneers would take the victory.
Kimberly Levee (SO, Dansville, NY) scored twenty points, which included four of five from three point land. Catherine Bialecki (FR, Almond, NY) would end the game with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Janae Libby (SO, Fort Fairfield, ME) would lead the offensive attack for the Owls with 15 points. Katie Patenaude (SR, Presque Isle, ME) and Amanda Hotham (JR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would add ten points in the effort.
The Owls will wrap up their season on Sunday afternoon when they host Fisher College. The game is scheduled for a noon tip.
