Head Women's Basketball coach Mark Knight announces another recruit for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Katherine Michaud of Fort Kent Community High School will attend UMPI in the fall and becomes the second county player, and fourth Mainer to next year's roster.
During Michaud's junior season, she was a key piece in the winningest season in program history as the Warriors went 16-2 en route to the three seed in C North. The year prior in her sophomore year, Fort Kent finished 14-4 but captured the two seed, the highest finish in the standings they'd ever had since 1977. Michaud was a textbook post player and the primary rebounder and blocker for what was a great era of Warriors hoops. In her senior year, Michaud grabbed 106 rebounds and blocked 42 shots.
Michaud racked up the awards in her senior season. She was named to All-Aroostook, as well as being an Aroostook League Senior All-Star. Michaud shined in the classroom as well, earning Aroostook League Scholar Athlete and Penobscot Valley Conference Scholar Athlete. All of those awards came in 2026 alone.
Michaud is excited to be able to continue playing basketball into college. "I'm so excited to continue my academic and athletic journeys at UMPI. I'm very grateful to my family, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering support along the way," Michaud said.
Her high school coach Kelly O'Leary is happy to be able to see Michaud compete at the next level. "Katherine was the most sincere and hardest working athlete I've ever coached. I am pleased to see her love for basketball will continue and I am excited to watch her journey as an UMPI Owl," O'Leary said.
Michaud plans to study Elementary Education at UMPI.
