UMPI Men's Soccer made it a second straight win as well as their first league win, with a victory over VTSU-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won by the identical score of 4-0, which they did earlier in the week to UMA.
How it Happened:
The Owls handled the Hornets throughout the entirety of the contest. They put up 25 shots and 12 on target, while Lyndon managed just four and one on target. 13 came in the first half and 12 in the second, showcasing the wire-to-wire dominance. UMPI opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Isaac Doore scored his fourth goal in two games, coming off the hat trick at UMA on Tuesday. Picking up the assist was freshman Ayden Burnett. Then in the 19th minute, Jovain Barrett scored his first on the season, when Edmundo Cuervo-Alanis connected with him and picked up the assist.
The score went into half-time 2-0 in favor of the Owls. Though UMP{I had the lead and dominated possession time, it was certainly not out of hand yet. That's how it would stay for 30 minutes of the second half until Jovain Barrett scored his second of the day to put the game away in the 76th minute. Ayden Burnett added another for good measure in the 87th minute, giving the Owls a 4-0 win.
Top Performers:
It was of course Jovain Barrett's day, scoring two goals. Ayden Burnett was big with an assist and a goal as well, and Isaac Doore opened things up with a goal early. In addition to that, Barrett had six total shots, four on target. Burnett had seven total shots and three on frame. Edmundo Cuervo-Alanis had five shots and two on target. Garrett Fletcher also had three shots and one on frame coming off the bench.
Next Up:
UMPI improves to 2-5-1 on the season and 1-1 in NAC play. The Owls' game with Fisher has been cancelled due to the projected Nor'easter rain storm in the Boston area. The Owls will get ready for Thomas College as they'll host them as part of homecoming weekend this coming Saturday, October 3 at Park Family Field.
