Owls Attack Explodes in First Win of the Year

AUGUSTA, ME

UMPI Men's Soccer got an influx of offense in their win over University of Maine at Augusta on Tuesday afternoon, giving the Owls their first win of the season, and John Gonzalez his first victory as a college Head Coach.

How it Happened:
UMA is a much improved squad from last years' team that fell 15-0 to the Owls at Park Family Field a year ago. The Moose threatened throughout the game, but the Owls dominated possession time for most of the contest. Things remained scoreless until Isaac Doore broke the tie in the 35th minute after beating his defender then placing it perfectly on the far post lower corner. It gave the Owls their second goal of the season and first lead of the year.

Joel Cormier made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when he settled a cross, took his time and finished it strong off the keeper and in. The Owls went into halftime with that two goal lead.

In the second half, it became the Isaac Doore show. The senior captain scored his second goal of the day just a minute and fifteen seconds into the frame, after knocking in a rebound after his initial shot was saved but bounced back to him. Then, in the 76th minute, he saved his most impressive goal for last. From 10 yards behind the eighteen and offset to the right he put a perfect ball towards the upper left corner, and beat the goalkeeper, giving him the hat-trick. UMPI rode the time out from there, cruising to the 4-0 victory over the Moose.

Top Performers:
Isaac Doore was of course the hero with his three goals, Joel Cormier scoring the one other, and Garrett Fletcher picking up an assist. Billy Wray had five shots, three on target, while Edmundo Cuervo-Alanis had four with two on frame. Colt Curtis, Ranger Morton, Nate Tucker, Garrett Fletcher and Micah Daigle all had one shot on goal as well.

Next Up:
UMPI improves to 1-5-1 on the year and will head to Vermont for the second straight weekend, taking on VTSU-Lyndon in a NAC game on Saturday at 1pm. Then they'll head to Boston and play Fisher College on Sunday at noon.
