David Sanyaolu to Play for UMPI Men’s Soccer Team

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's soccer team has added David Sanyaolu a talented defender from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to their 2026 recruiting class.

Sanyaolu is a central defender and was a four-year varsity starter for the Baton Rouge Bulldogs. He helped lead his team to the school's first appearance in the semifinal round of the Louisiana State Championship.

As the team's Center-Back, David helped anchor the defense leading them to six shutouts throughout his senior season. David also played soccer for both the Baton Rouge Soccer Club as well as Red Stick United during the past 5 years.

David plans to study Business Administration at UMPI, and when asked about coming to the University this fall to play for the Owls David stated "I have always been passionate about playing college soccer and I am grateful for the opportunity to play for the Umpi Owls in 2026."

Richard Harsch, the varsity soccer coach during David's four year career at Baton Rouge Magnet school was happy to hear that David will be joining the Owls roster in 2026.

"David's outstanding skill and defensive abilities help lead the 2026 Bulldogs to a trip to the Division 1 Semi-Finals. Not only was David a top performer on the field but his work ethic and leadership skills were instrumental in the development of our younger players," Harsch said.

UMPI Head Men's Soccer Coach, Alan Gordon, is extremely excited to have David join the Owls team in 2026. "David has the skill, athletic ability and knowledge of the game to step in and immediately make an impact on the success of the team. The experience and knowledge David has gained while playing for both his high school and club teams has definitely prepared him to meet the challenges of playing in the competitive NCAA North Atlantic Conference. I am looking forward to seeing David take the field with his new teammates next fall."
