UMPI Men Earn Big Draw in Opening Roadtrip

Saturday: 3-0 Pilgrims
The UMPI men's soccer team battled New England College on Saturday afternoon through a scoreless opening stretch before the Pilgrims broke through late in the first half. New England College ultimately pulled away for a 3-0 victory, handing the Owls their second loss of the season.

After nearly 19 minutes of scoreless play, New England College opened the scoring at 18:33. Ethan Zuniga finished a chance assisted by Chase Gurtowsky and Amit Solomon to give the Pilgrims a 1-0 advantage.

UMPI goalkeeper Brett Senal kept the Owls within striking distance, recording four saves during the match. The Owls entered halftime trailing by just one goal.

New England College added to its lead just 55 seconds into the second half when Jack LaBroad found the back of the net, with Chase Gurtowsky and Levi Campbell providing the assists.

Zuniga struck again in the 53rd minute to complete his brace and push the Pilgrims' advantage to 3-0.

The Owls continued to look for opportunities, finishing with four shots, including two on target. Isaac Doore led UMPI with two shots, while Ayden Burnett and Micah Daigle each added a shot in the afternoon.

Isaac Doore recorded a team-high two shots, including one on goal. Ayden Burnett and Micah Daigle also registered shots in the afternoon.

In Goal: Brett Senal played all 90 minutes and made four saves while facing three goals.

Sunday: 0-0 Draw with Colonels

The UMPI men's soccer team earned their first result of the season Sunday, playing Curry College to a 0-0 draw behind outstanding keeper play at Curry College.

The Colonels controlled much of the offensive pressure throughout the afternoon, finishing with 40 shots, including 20 on target. Despite the sustained pressure, the Owls' defense and goalkeeper Brett Senal kept Curry off the scoreboard. Senal turned in a standout performance between the posts, making 20 saves over 90 minutes to preserve the shutout and secure the draw for UMPI. The Owls managed five shots of their own, with four finding the target. Edmundo Cuervo-Alanis led UMPI with three shots, including two on goal, while Andrew Morales and Garrett Plourde each recorded a shot on target. Neither team could break through over 90 minutes, as the Owls secured their first tie of the season.

Brett Senal was the difference-maker for UMPI, recording a season-high 20 saves in a 90-minute shutout. The Owls' keeper along with his strong defense withstood 15 Curry corner kicks, 40 overall shots and 20 shots on goal while still turning in a clean slate to earn the draw.
