STANDISH, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Track and Field teams competed in meet number four of the season. More school records were set as the Owls continue to perform up to their potential, as well as another New England automatic standard from standout thrower Joseph Tuulima.
Men:
Joseph Tuulima led UMPI as he has all year long, with a 1st place finish in the shot put. His throw of 14.56m beat out 35 other competitors. With that throw, he not only won the event, he hit the automatic standard for the New England Division III meet. Tuulima also came up big in the hammer throw, finishing 7th while setting a school record with a 38.89m throw. Also, in Discus, Tuulima finished in 3rd place, at 40.05m.
Outside of the throws, Tariq Martin set a school record in the high jump, leaping 1.81m and finishing 4th in the event. In the sprints, Jovain Barrett ran well in the 200 meters, finishing 9th with a time of 24.04. Westley Dyer supported in 16th with a time of 24.48.
Women:
Three school records were set on the women's side beginning with Maubi Mateo as she finished in 10th place in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 13.74 seconds, setting a school record in the process. In the 100 meter hurdles, Taylor Marston likewise set a school record with 19.7 seconds.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Natalie Miranda set another school record, finishing 2nd with a time of 14:13.98.
Evelyn Elijah paced the women's team in the throws, finishing 16th in shot put and Javelin, and 21st in discus.
