Owls Add Ashland Defender Emma Doughty to Women’s Soccer Program

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's soccer program has announced the addition of Emma Doughty (Ashland, Maine / Ashland District School) to the Owls roster. Doughty joins a long line of Ashland players from Coach Peter Belskis' teams to go from the Hornets to the Owls. She also joins her older sister, Abby Doughty who will be a junior next fall, and becomes the third Doughty sister to play soccer at UMPI.

Doughty joins the program following a strong career at Ashland District School, where she developed into one of the region's top defenders. Playing primarily at center back, she contributed both defensively and offensively, finishing her high school career with 15 goals.

During her time with the Hornets, Doughty helped lead the program to multiple postseason appearances, including Northern Maine Regional runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2024. Ashland captured the Northern Maine Regional Championship in 2025 and advanced to the Class D State Championship game.

Her individual accomplishments include being named the team's Outstanding Defense Award winner in 2025, serving as team captain, and earning Northern Class D All-Star and All-Aroostook All-Star honors in both 2023 and 2025.

"I'm excited to continue both my academic and athletic career at a college close to home and to become part of the team," said Doughty.

Doughty plans to major in Education at UMPI.
