PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE –
For the second straight day, Head Baseball coach Tim Burns has announced another Canadian addition to his ever-growing and competitive roster. Brock Black will become the third player from the Maritime provinces on the roster and join his Woodstock High School counterpart Justus Downs on the Owls 2026 roster.
The Riceville, New Brunswick native was a huge part of Woodstock's successes in recent years, winning team MVP for their fall seasons of 2023 and 2024. Black has accumulated an impressive average over the last couple of seasons, hitting .400 with a .520 on base percentage. Black plays primarily catcher but has experience at first base.
Black's high school coach, Jon Oulton is excited to see another one of his players continuing to play baseball at the next level.
"It's been an absolute pleasure coaching Brock at Woodstock. He is a one-of-a-kind player that every coach hopes to have on their team. His commitment, hard work, leadership and baseball knowledge made my job as a coach much easier. UMPI is getting not only a talented player, but a model student athlete. I'm excited to watch him take this next step and continue to grow at the collegiate level," Oulton said.
Black intends to study Business Administration and will compete for his role beginning this fall. "It's an absolute honor to have the opportunity to continue playing Baseball and continue to grow my education at such a great institution as UMPI," Black said.
Tim Burns weighed in on his excitement to have Brock joining the roster along with his Canadian counterparts.
"I'm very excited for Brock to join the program! He will join his rekindled teammate Justus Downs along with Carter Murphy bringing us some serious talent from north of the border that will make an impact immediately. Brock, along with Justus and Carter will grow as young men, and ball players and it will be an amazing experience to watch it happen/ Welcome to the Owls family Brock!"
