UMPI Track & Field Opens 2025 Outdoor Season

Owls led by parliament of PR’s, top-finishes and a school record in outdoor opener

(Weston & Fitchburg, Mass.) April 4 & 5, 2025 - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's & women's track & field program headed to The Commonwealth State for a pair of outdoor meets to open up the 2025 campaign as the Owls took on the Regis Spring Classic hosted by Regis College and the Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State University.

Results for the Spring Classic can be found on MileSplit. Results for the Sheehan Memorial Meet can be found on AthleticLIVE.

First-year Evelyn Elijah guided the UMPI women as she scored 10-total points throughout the weekend for the Owls. Her strongest performance was a six-point toss at the Classic as she tallied a 29.32m on her second attempt of Day One. At the Sheehan Memorial Meet she earned points in two events, collecting three-points in the shot put with a mark of 8.92m, as well as a single-point effort in the discus off a 27.15m throw.

Isaac Doore nearly snapped the school record in the javelin back-to-back at the Classic and then the Memorial Meet.

Overall, Doore scored eight points across the weekend. Doore measured in at 48.02m in the javelin at Regis, only to be topped with a 49.02m (five-point) effort at FSU. Doore also laced it up for the 800m at Regis (2:09, two-points) & 400m at Fitchburg State (53.95, one-point), both personal bests, to go along with his strong javelin outing.

A first-place, 10-point bar-clearance by Alessandro Marroquin off a 3.05m height in the pole vault opened the weekend for the Owl men.

A second-place, seven-point display by Westley Dyer in the high jump at Regis was earned off a 1.75m clearance. Jovain Barrett PR'd off the same height the next day at FSU, as the duo tied the school record in that event.

Xavier McAtee's 33.63m (one-point) mark in the discus and 11.06m (two-point) throw in the shot put at the Sheehan Meet was another strong showing by the Owl men on Saturday.

"Our student-athletes have worked really diligently throughout the preseason," Head Track & Field coach Mc Kinley Ward-La Salle commented. "They all did a great job this weekend in owning their performances. We can adjust accordingly and try to improve."

The UMPI track & field program will be back on the road for the 2025 Monks Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine., on April 11th-12th.
