BANGOR, ME
The UMPI Women's Basketball team returned to the court for the first time since November 25th, making it a 10 day break between games. The Owls were awoken from their break with the Husson Eagles and Coach Kissy Walker's squad, although they are in more of a rebuilding year for their standards, still posed a very tall order for the young Owls.
How it Happened:
Through the first five minutes of play, the game was 50/50 with Husson leading 8-7. The Owls sunk a couple of three-balls in the quarter but the Eagles were able to pull away and take a 19-12 lead after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Eagles did their damage. They shot 47% from the field and a layup at the buzzer gave them a 27 point halftime lead at 47-20. In the third, the Owls played a lot like they did in the first, but the deficit was too much to overcome at that point as Husson won the third 19-11 and the fourth 22-13. The final ended up being 88-44, as UMPI struggled to find an answer for Husson's consistent offense.
Top Performers:
The scoring tandem of Aleyah Matheson and Lindsay Hamilton was at the forefront yet again, with Matheson logging 17 points and Hamilton notching 15. Matheson was 6-19 from the field, and buried three triples, while Hamilton had 12 rebounds as she got another double-double, going 5-9 from the field overall.
Next Up:
UMPI falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. It won't get easier for the Owls for their last two games of this semester as they will take on Farmington and Maine Maritime Academy next weekend.
