PRESQUE ISLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle continued their outstanding start to the season with a victory over the Lesley Lynx on Tuesday night to kick off their second semester of play. Wieden Gymnasium has proven to be a very tough place for anyone to play as the Owls improved to 4-0 at home on the year.
How it Happened:
UMPI started off hot with production from everywhere jumping out to a 21-12 lead through the first ten minutes. They closed out the half on a run as well, as they shot well and played very tough defense holding Lesley to just 25 points after 20 minutes of play and held a 16-point lead. UMPI's lead grew to as many as 22 early in the second half before the Lynx slowly started to cut into Owl advantage bringing it back within 11 at 54-43 six minutes into the half. UMPI responded nicely however and was able to take back control. They'd never surrender it, cruising to an 84-64 victory. As a team, they shot over 50 percent for the fifth time this season at 53.6%. Despite a slower rebounding day of just 28 and only two offensive rebounds, the Owls found ways to score efficiently, having 23 assists as a team.
Top Performers:
Akhe McMichael continues to do his job as the Owls scorer leading the way with 20 points. He shot 8 of 14 from the field. Doug McCala had 13 points while UMPI got solid bench production from the likes of Brice Lawrence and Saquan Carswell who each had 12 points. Dwaine Williams had an efficient 10 points in 15 minutes as he got into foul trouble early.
Next Up:
UMPI improves to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference. They will take to the court for a second straight day when they host Lesley again for a 2 p.m. start. That matchup will be a non-conference game.
