DELHI, NY
The UMPI Women's Basketball team began their lengthy three-game road trip with a North Atlantic Conference matchup against SUNY Delhi. The Owls, who entered the game 1-2 in conference play, started off strong, scoring early and often and never looked back. They would pick up a wire-to-wire victory.
How it Happened:
The Owls put up a high volume of shots throughout the contest, attempting a season high 72 field goals. The higher volume meant more points for UMPI, as they took a 7-0 lead to start the game and would grow that to a 19-9 lead after one quarter. They started off the second quarter on a 9-0 run and took a strong lead into halftime with complete control of the game despite some foul trouble keeping their usual leading scorer Alexis Ireland sidelined for most of the first half. In the second half, shots began raining down, and UMPI would eventually cruise to the win, recording a season-high 76 points to the Brocos' 59.
Top Performers:
Anaira Ayala took over the game for UMPI, carding a career-high 28 points. Ayala went 10-24 from the field and knocked down six three-pointers.
