PRESQUE ISLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer team faced another tough opponent for their second conference game of the year as they played hosts to the Husson Eagles, the defending NAC East champions.
Husson played very clean from the jump and were able to hang three quick goals on the Owls in the first half, two within 40 seconds of each other to take a stranglehold. The Owls added one before half time as well but couldn't stop the Eagle opportunities in the second half, as Husson went on to win by a score of 5-1.
For the Owls, it was tough to find many offensive looks. The lone goal came in the 26
th minute when defender, and captain
Steven Nader, ran onto a ball that took a huge bounce over the defense, and became 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. The keeper ricocheted the ball directly off of Nader, and it trickled all the way off the post and into the net from around 25 yards out. The rest of the offense was few and far between.
Remar Shirley led in shots with 2, while
Hayden Bay and the aforementioned Nader each had one.
In net for UMPI was once again Sam Paladino who faced 14 shots. Husson did a tremendous job capitalizing on those shots, netting 5 of the 8 that they put on goal, giving Paladino three saves, one in particular was a spectacular save midway through the second half.
The Owls fall to 1-3 on the year and 0-2 in NAC play. They will take on Lesley University next for another NAC contest in Lexington, MA. Kick off for that one is set for 12pm.
