UMPI Falls Shy in Second Day of Lesley Weekend

LEXINGTON, MA — UMPI (2-16) took on Lesley University (17-11) for two more conference games, looking to avenge the prior days' losses.

Game 1 (4-1 Lynx)

How it happened:
In the first game, UMPI once again drew first blood as the game would become all too familiar from the first contest of day 1. The Owls' starter Spencer Harman quieted Lesley's bats until the 5th inning when the Lynx scored two runs. They added some insurance in the 6th as the Owls failed to rally in the top of the 7th, falling by a score of 4-1.

At the Plate:
UMPI's bats were able to manufacture a run in the first inning with hits by Garrett Chadwick and Timothy Burns followed by a sac fly by Joey Blake. From there the Owls would be unable to score the rest of the way. The DH/Catcher tandem of Romeo Harris and Anthony Searels each had a single, while Ricky Goupille added one in the last inning to give the Owls their total of five hits in the game.

On the Mound:
Spencer Harman made another quality start for the Owls on the heels of his nine inning victory last week. Harman tamed the bats throughout as UMPI's defense kept them in it. Spencer Harman would finish throwing all six innings, allowing just six hits and two earned runs.

Game 2 (13-0 Lynx)

How it happened:
Much like the first day, Lesley's bats woke up in game two after doing just enough to win the first game. They jumped on the Owls early, scoring five in the 1st. They would add one in the 2nd, three in the 3rd and four in the 6th for their total of 13 on 14 hits. UMPI was unable to plate anyone as they mustered just four hits.

At the Plate:
UMPI's bats reached a weekend low in the last game of the series. They were led by Timothy Burns who went 2 for 3 with a double. Garrett Chadwick and Romeo Harris each had a single, giving the Owls their four total hits.

On the Mound:
UMPI unloaded the Bullpen in this game using four pitchers in six innings. Dakota Morrow highlighted the day as he threw four innings of relief allowing two earned runs while striking out one batter.

Next up: UMPI will begin an eight game homestand this coming Saturday. The Owls will host the Hornets of Vermont State University Lyndon for a four game series. Games to be played at Presque Isle High School starting Saturday at 12.
