Owls Compete vs the Lynx in NAC Doubleheader

LEXINGTON, MA — UMPI (2-14) traveled to play Lesley University (15-11) a day after the anniversary of the battles at Lexington and Concord.

Game 1 (3-2 Lynx)

How it happened:

In game 1, the Owls and Lynx found themselves in a low scoring pitcher's duel. UMPI drew first blood in the top of the 3rd. Lesley responded in the 4th with two runs as UMPI narrowly got out of the inning behind some great defense. The game stayed a stalemate until the top of the 7th when UMPI was able to tie it up with some clutch hitting, however the Owls were unable to capitalize with runners in the 7th and Lesley eventually walked it off in the 8th.

At the Plate:

Despite what the score indicates, UMPI still swung the bat decently well in this game. Garrett Chadwick stayed red hot in conference play with two more hits and an RBI. Joey Blake also carded the same stat line going 2-4 with an RBI. Blake's RBI came in a clutch spot in the 7th inning with two outs to tie it up.

On the Mound:

Jonah Baude was the hero of the hill for the Owls. He started and would pitch the whole way. He threw out many tight jams throughout. Baude would finish with 7 innings pitched allowing three runs while striking out four.

Game 2 (15-2 Lynx)

How it happened:

UMPI had a hard time getting any rallies going in this game, failing to score until the 8th. Lesley threw a few jabs in the early going, scoring one run in each of the first four innings. In the seventh is where they delivered the knockout punch, exploding for eight runs, they swung the bats very well in this second game recording 18 knocks.

At the Plate:

The Owls continued to struggle to string anything together. Joey Lippo had a pair of hits from the lead off spot. Joey Blake continued his great day at the plate once again going 2 for 4, and an RBI, this time adding a double to the scorebook. Payton Jones also had two hits for UMPI.

On the mound:

Ian McCray made the start for the Owls and was able to settle in. McCray pitched outs all the way until the 7th inning where he ran into some trouble. He finished throwing 6.1 innings. Mason Long relieved McCray in the seventh allowing 0 earned. Michael Langley threw the 8th, allowing two earned and striking out one.

UMPI falls to 2-16 overall and 1-7 in conference. Lesley improves to 17-11 overall and 7-1 in conference, finding themselves in first place pending the results of Husson/Thomas.
