Owls Fall in Season Opener

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Owls faced off with Lakeland University Muskies out of Wisconsin at the RussMatt invitational. They competed in a single nine inning game to start their season. The bats rallied early and were consistent throughout as every player in the lineup recorded at least one hit. In the end, the Muskies proved to be too much, winning 14-7.

How it happened:
The Owls found themselves in a 6-0 hole after the top of the first. UMPI responded quickly, staying patient at the plate and loading the bases. Garrett Chadwick and Anthony Searels each had RBI singles to bring UMPI back within 2. The game remained scoreless until the 4th behind some stellar defensive play. Michael Langley recorded his first career hit in that frame and the Owls plated one. In the 8th, another freshman, Cyrus Sewell recorded his first hit with an RBI single. Every player in the lineup had 1 hit while Garret Chadwick and Ricky Goupille each had two singles.

On the mound:
Freshman Jonah Baude from Maine powerhouse program Bangor High School, started the game for the Owls. Despite a rocky first inning, Baude settled in and only allowed 3 more over 5 and 2 thirds innings while striking out three. Grad student Dakota Morrow, came on valiantly in relief and finished the game going 3.1 innings. 

 
Next up: Owls face off against Principia for a Monday doubleheader.
