Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Owls Fight Hard Against Number Five-Ranked Team in the Country

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Basketball team opened up their home schedule Monday night when they played host to one of the most prestigious programs in all of Division III, Bowdoin College. A Year removed from losing by five points in the Elite Eight, the Polar Bears rolled into town at 3-0.

How it Happened:

Right off the tip, Bowdoin College showcased why their ranking scoring right off the jump ball. They then scored the next 24 points to go up 26-0 in the first Quarter. UMPI struggled to put the ball in the hoop during the first half but found some success in half number two. The Owls, despite knowing the scoreboard was out of hand, fought as if it were a tie game the entire time. Playing some pesky defense, they were able to force 21 turnovers throughout the game on an otherwise surehanded Bowdoin team. With their 31 first quarter points, Bowdoin was able to put it in cruise control for the rest of the game, scoring 20, 18, and 19 for the remaining three quarters. UMPI matched their first half total with nine points in the third quarter, eventually finishing with 23 points to Bowdoin's 88. The Polar Bears played a balanced attack that made it incredibly difficult for the Owls to score while remaining very efficient, shooting 59.4% from the field as a team.
