Owls Battle with the Hornets in Home Doubleheader

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls hosted the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader vs the Northern Vermont University – Lyndon Hornets. The Hornets completed the sweep in the first day of games, losing the first game 6-5 and a near comeback in the second game, losing 12-10.

With Joey Lippo on the mound for the Owls, the Owls were able to hold the hornets to just four hits and three earned runs. Although, three errors in the field along with three walks helped bring the Hornets to their six runs. Bigelow pitched the complete game for the Hornets to earn the win.

The Owls found themselves down by three runs in the fifth inning when Timothy Burns hit a two-run homer to bring the Owls within two runs. For the remainder of the game it was a battle on the mound as neither team was able to bring in a run.

In the second game of the day, the Owls found themselves down big as they headed into the late innings of the game. The 9-inning game came down to the end, as the Owls found themselves down 12-1 going into their final at bats. A pair of double by Preston Bass and Kyle Nichols started the Owls rally, bringing in three runs. Three more hits brought in four more runs to bring the Owls with in four runs of the lead. Later in the inning with two outs, Ricky Goupille hit a 2-RBI triple to bring the Owls within two runs of the lead. Although a final strikeout by the Owls ended the game, as their 9-run inning came just short of a comeback win.
