Owls Fall in Close Battle with USM

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls men's basketball team hosted their first home game of the year in a late game loss vs U-Maine System opponent, the University of Southern Maine. The Owls 87-83 loss brings them to 0-3 to start their year.

The teams battled throughout the game as there were 14 lead changes and seven ties through the 40-minute game. UMPI found themselves down by one at the half as they shot an impressive 57.6% from the field, led by Dany Harris' 15 points in the first 20 minutes. The Huskies of USM also finished the half with a high shooting percentage, 59.4%. The Huskies were able to put together some solid late-game possessions to keep their 4-point lead throughout the last three minutes of the game.

The Owls were led by Dany Harris' 25 points on 11-20 shooting and adding seven rebounds. David Ellington came off the bench with 14 points as he hit an impressive 4-6 from the three. Doug McCalla finished shooting 6-9 from the field and 13 points on the night to go along with his nine rebounds.

Next Up: The Owls will head on the road to face off against another U-Maine System opponent in U-Maine Augusta on Tuesday.
