Owls Beat Moose in the Civic Center

AUGUSTA, MAINE – The UMPI men's basketball team earned their first win of the year in a U-Maine System match up vs the University of Maine at Augusta Moose, 72-47.
 
The Owls started off the game with some great effort on the defensive end as they held the Moose to just 21 points in the first half. The Moose shot 26.5% from the field and 20% from the three in the first as the Owls shot 52.9% from the field in the first half. The first half was lead by Dany Harris and Charlie Mellick's nine points each, while they shot a combined 8-10 from the field. In the second half, the Moose found more life as they picked up their offense and defense, holding the Owls to 32 points in the second and scoring 26 points themselves. Although the Owls held off for the win.
 
Harris led all scorers with 20 points shooting 8-9 from the field. Mellick finished with 12 points and four assists while grabbing four rebounds and shooting 5-9 from the field. Gilbert Jean Mendez also score 11 points while shooting 50% from the field. While first year starter Doug McCalla scored six points while grabbing a game high 18 rebounds on the night.
