Owls Battle with Mariners in NAC Match

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The UMPI Owls men's soccer team falls in their third North Atlantic Conference match of the year, falling to 0-3 in the conference. It was Maine Maritime Academy who took the win today at Park Family Field, winning 2-1 and advancing to 3-1 in the NAC.
 
The Mariners came out of the gate with an early goal, scoring in the 2nd minute of the game to give them an early lead. The Mariners continued to pressure the Owls in the first with 11 total shots, eventually putting another one in the back of the net for another goal in the 32nd minute. In the second half, the Owls bounced back with more pressure and physical play on the pitch. This pressure would lead to an Owls goal in the 48th minute. Isaac Doore would earn the goal off an assist by Steven Nader. With Owls down just one goal, the teams continued to battle in the physical game. Eventually the Mariners would hold off the Owls and secure the victory. Xavier McAtee would spend the game in goal for UMPI, with eight saves on the day.
 
 
Next Up: The Owls will host a pair of NAC West teams this weekend.
