Owls Complete the NAC Cross Divisional Sweep

OT Win vs Reigning NAC Champions

UTICA, NY – The Owls completed the weekend sweep on Saturday defeating last year's NAC Champion SUNY Poly 69 to 66 in a thrilling overtime game.  After getting behind 6 to 0 to open the game, UMPI quickly cut into that deficit in and led throughout the first 3 Quarters of play before going cold in the 4th Quarter. The Wildcats clawed back in the last 3:38 seconds of regulation to tie the game and send it to an extra 5 minutes of play.

Emily Wheaton had the hot-hand for the Owls in this one as she led the team with 23 points. Wheaton's 3 pointer with 4:00 remaining in the 1st Quarter knotted the game for the last time at 11 to 11 until the final moments of the 4th Quarter. SUNY Poly had the last shot of regulation but the Owls defense held strong and Lexi Ireland secured the rebound at the buzzer.

In Overtime the Owls scored first following a steal from Aleia Milano and a made 3 pointer from Chantel Williams on an assist from Ireland to gain a 62 to 59 advantage. Trailing by 2 points at the 1:18 mark, Emily Wheaton tied it with 2 free throws at 66 to 66. Two more foul shots by Jelecia Ma'Gee-Hodges put the Owls up 68 to 66 and a final free throw by Wheaton accounted for the final 69 to 66 score.

Wheaton had 5 assists and 4 rebounds in an all-around fine game, while Ireland and Ma'Gee-Hodges each scored 12 points with Ireland hauling down 12 rebounds. Chantel Williams added 10 points and 8 rebounds for UMPI (8-6, 3-2 NAC).
