Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Owls Fight Hard in ENU Invitational

Kelly Earns All-Tournament Team

QUINCY, MA – The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team continues their season opening ENU Tournament with a pair of games vs Wellesley College and Suffolk University. The Owls would fight hard but fall to Wellesley 1-3 and then to Suffolk 0-3. While Hailey Kelly earned All-Tournament Team in the ENU Invitational.

Owls vs Blue – 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 14-25

With the Blue gradually building a led in the early first set, the Owls found themselves down 9-16. The Owls then took advantage of a couple errors by the Blue, and followed with a four point swing late in the match to bring them within three. Lateer finding themselves still down, 19-23 the Owls would go on a six-point run led by the serving of Hailey Kelly, earing the comeback win in the first set.

The second and third sets, the two teams were battling back and forth throughout the sets. It was not until late in each set where the team found themselves tied, until the Blue would go on to score some clutch points late to put the games away to give them a 2-1 lead in the match. The Owls ran out of gas in the fourth and final set, as any run they made was shut down by Wellesley as they went on to win 25-14.

Makayla Miskiewicz led the Owls with seven kills on 21 attacks and added ten digs on the defensive end. Kelly finished the game with four kills on only ten attacks, also racking up 14 assists, one service ace and eight digs. Alexis Engel led the Owls in digs in the back row, finishing the match with 17 to go along with her four kills and three assists on the offensive end. Amalia Erives and Rachel Walker each added five points for the team, Erives was highlighted by four service aces and Walker finished with five kills.

Owls vs Rams – 13-25, 19-25, 15-25

The Rams came out on fire as they went on a big run early in the first set to put them on top early. Any run by the Owls was answered quickly by a run of their own, before the Rams put the first set away. It was a different game the second set as the Owls and Rams battled back and forth answering each other's two-three point swings. Down one, after a kill by Makayla Miskiewicz, the Rams capitalized off a few UMPI errors to give them a four-point lead late. A late three point run by the Owls was not enough in the second set as the Rams took the set. An early run by the Rams in the third was too much to come back from for UMPI as they fell in the third and final set.

Miskiewicz and Amalia Erives led the Owls with three kills each. Hailey Kelly led the team with assists and digs, with nine and seven. Rachel Walker's two solo blocks along with her two kills gave her four points for the Owls. As a team the Owls finished with 11 kills on 64 attempts and finished with 26 digs.

The Owls will head back up north before heading to Colby College for another weekend tournament.
