Owls Tie Falcons 3-3

UMPI Finishes Home Weekend 1-0-1

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls Men's Soccer team faced off in their second home game of the year vs non-conference opponent Fisher College. The teams finished in a 3-3 tie, bringing the Owls to a 1-1-2 record and Fisher to a 0-2-1 record on the year.

A quick goal for the Falcons gave them the lead in just the third minute of the game. With the Owls down one, they went on the attack. After a couple corners the Owls put one in the back of the net, Joshua Thomas earned the unassisted goal in just the 7th minute. The remainder of the first half stayed fairly even as the Falcons had the slight advantage in shots, 11-8. That was until the final couple minutes of the half, where Diego Vega scored the Owls second goal, assisted by teammate Remar Shirley in the 43rd minute.

The second half, the Owls put up another goal in the 66th minute, to give the Owls a two goal lead. This time it was Remar Shirley who would put the unassisted goal in the back of the net. The Falcons found themselves down a man for the remainder of the game shortly after, with a red card by the goalie. Despite being down a man, the Falcons were able to make their way back and score a goal in the 69th minute to bring them within one. As the Falcons continued to pressure the Owls, they were able to draw several fouls near their own goal to keep the pressure on goalie Xavier McAtee. McAtee was able to hold up and prevent any goals, until the final minute of the game. Akil Frank drew a foul inside the 18, to give the Falcons a penalty kick, and they did not waste it. Tying the game with under a minute left, forcing the game to end in a tie.

Despite not putting one in the back of the net, Matthew Bayonne applied pressure on the offensive side of the ball, finishing with seven shot, three on goal. McAtee would finish the game with seven saves. The Owls will head to Farmington, Maine to play in a NAC game against UMF on Saturday the 17th of September.
