Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Waylon Jones

UMPI Women's Soccer Opens up 2026 Season at Home

UMPI Women's Soccer kicked off their season on home turf, falling 0-6 to the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The Bengals set a rapid pace early, putting the Owls on their heels with five first-half goals before settling the matchup in the second frame. 

First Half Blitz:

UMFK struck quickly in the opening minutes, finding the net at 4:26 via Breanna Marr. The  Bengals kept the pressure high, tacking on back-to-back goals from Maid Martin in the 10th minute and Marr's second of the day in the 13th minute. Tajay Stephenson added a fourth goal  at 15:43, and Tashoy Dennis capped off the dominant half with an unassisted score in the 28th  minute to give UMFK a commanding 5-0 edge at the break. 

Second Half Push 
The Owls tightened up defensively in the second half, limiting UMFK to just two shot attempts  over the final 45 minutes. Shylah Francis added a sixth goal for the Bengals in the 64th minute,  but UMPI generated more offensive motion down the stretch to test UMFK keeper Dreanna Thaw. 

Top Performers: 
Ella McCarthy and Madison Bridges (off the bench) provided the main spark on attack, recording the Owls' two shots on target. Brianna Levesque also fired a shot attempt. In net, starting goalkeeper Michaela Carney split duty in net, racking up four saves across 85 minutes before transfer Natalie Miranda stepped in for the final five minutes of play. 

Next Up:
The Owls are hoping to look up against New England College at 3:00pm Saturday and against Curry College at 2:30pm Sunday.
