Owls Out of Reach With Fisher

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Volleyball squad returned home Saturday afternoon, hosting Fisher College at Wieden Hall. The Owls battled throughout the match, but Fisher ultimately came away with a three-set victory, 25-17, 25-13, 25-15.

The opening set saw the Owls compete closely early, but Fisher gradually built separation and pulled away to take the first set 25-17. UMPI finished the set with four kills and put pressure on Fisher with its serving game, but the Falcons held the advantage offensively. Fisher carried that momentum into the second set, using a strong offensive attack to take a 25-13 victory. The Owls continued to battle defensively, recording 17 digs in the set, but Fisher's offense proved difficult to slow down. UMPI looked to respond in the third set, but Fisher again maintained control. The Falcons closed out the set 25-15 to complete the three-set sweep. Despite the result, the Owls finished the match with 50 digs and 14 service aces, while also holding a 4-3 advantage in blocks.

Top Performers:
UMPI received a balanced offensive effort, with Jade Anspach, Maubi Mateo, and Tiana Orffer each recording four kills.
The Owls' serving game was one of the highlights of the afternoon, as Katelynne Robertson and Maubi Mateo each recorded four aces, while Jada Kee added two. UMPI finished with 14 aces as a team.
At the net, Evelyn Perkins led the Owls with four blocks, while Anspach added two and Kee recorded one.
Tiana Orffer led UMPI defensively with 14 digs, followed by Rylie Kolkow with 11 and Mateo with nine. Kolkow also contributed two assists and an ace.
Evelyn Perkins directed the offense with 10 assists, while Kolkow added two and Robertson recorded one.

The Owls will hit the road for their next match, traveling to Fort Kent to take on the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:00 PM. UMPI will look to build on its early-season experience as the Owls continue preparing for North Atlantic Conference play in October.
