LEXINGTON, MA
The Owls Volleyball squad went into the final day of the regular season needing a win over Lesley and a Johnson loss to clinch the final playoff spot. That's exactly what they got to make sure they qualified for the playoffs yet again under Coach Bowman's tenure.
Match 1: 3-0 Owls
After a grueling five set conference match against Thomas on Friday night, UMPI got a much needed stress free sweep of the Lesley Lynx. They scored the first five points of the first set, and ran with that lead the whole way, cruising to a 25-14 win.
Lesley went up 2-0 in the second set, but UMPI responded with an 11-2 run after that, grabbing another lead that they'd hold on to throughout the set, winning 25-17.
The Owls opened set three with not only their most dominant stretch of the day, but of the entire season. The Owls went up 5-0, before Lesley got on the board, but then scored ten more times in a row to go up 15-1 and completely seal the deal thanks to that huge run. It was Nyla Guiboche's serve during the run before she finally committed a service error after ten good ones to end the run. Lesley turned it on right after this stretch, chipping at the UMPI advantage, but it proved too little, too late as UMPI coasted to a 25-16 win and a three set sweep of Lesley.

Match 2: 3-0 Owls
Match two started off much more even than the first one as the Lynx crawled out to a 6-4 lead. The Owls took it back at 8-6 and kept a slim advantage until a seven-point run made it 23-13. UMPI finished things out winning 25-15.
It was more of the same in the second set, as UMPI grinded to a 10-7 lead before rattling off a mini-run to make it 14-8. That lead swelled to 19-9, which was the advantage they'd once again. The Owls stayed in the driver's seat for the rest of the second set and beyond, as another late run in the final set to go up 18-11 sealed the deal.
