Owls Fall at Regis to Conclude Six-Day Road Trip

WESTON, MA

The UMPI Women got back to action after a one-day break between games on this lengthy New York/Massachusetts road trip. They would take on the Regis Pride for an early noon start time. The Owls struggled down the stretch offensively, and couldn't match the Pride who shot very well from the field and capitalized a lot on mistakes, outscoring UMPI 34-7 off turnovers.

How it Happened:

The Owls scored the first four points of the game, and jumped out to a 10-2 lead through the first three minutes. Regis would storm back however, and close out quarter number 1 on a 21-2 run, taking an 11-point lead. The Owls would play from behind the rest of the way as Regis maintained control. The lead was 17 at halftime, before UMPI finished the third quarter strong and keeping the game within reach at 58-45 entering the fourth. In the fourth however, Regis was more efficient than they'd been all day, scoring the first 14 points of the quarter put the game away extending their lead to 27. After that first-quarter run, Regis never surrendered the lead and cruised to an 82-54 victory over UMPI.

Top Performers:

Alexis Ireland continued her historic season scoring 26 points to lead the Owls. This mark ties her for her career high which she set exactly 365 days ago at Anna Maria. Ireland also racked up 17 rebounds. Anaira Ayala heated up in the second half to finish with 15 points and also cleaned up 5 boards for UMPI. Lindsay Hamilton added seven points in the losing effort.

Next Up:

The Owls fall to 3-10 on the season. They currently sit at 2-4 in the North Atlantic Conference. UMPI will return for a six-game home stand beginning with Vermont State University-Lyndon on Sunday, January 19th. That will be a noon start time.
