WATERVILLE, Maine (Sept. 28th, 2024) - The University of Maine at Presque Isle's men's & women's cross country program continued its strong start to the 2024 season on Sat., Sept. 28th, as the Owls took on the Thomas College Invitational hosted by Thomas College at the Sukeforth Family Trail System in Waterville, Maine.
UMPI snagged a third-place men's team finish with 72 points in the 6K, while a flock of four women also repped the Yellow & Blue in the 4K.
Junior
Westley Dyer guided the way again for the UMPI men, finishing seventh overall at 22:50, good for a ten second PR from last year's race on this course. Freshman
Angeline Beede was also in the front of the pack for the Owl women, earning a 22:12 mark good for 16th-place.
For the men, freshman Dave Gustin followed Dyer up with a 27:50 performance taking 23rd-place. Another trio of freshmen in
Isiah Mitchell (31:10),
Hector Perez (31:27) and Nick
Anderson (33:50) backed up Gustin and Dyer to give the Owls another scoring effort.
On the women's end of things as freshman Mikayla Buchanan (22:27), junior
Serena Lufkin (23:02) and freshman Avery Vinkadich (25:38) supported Beede in a 16-17-19-22 collective effort in scoring.
The Owls will take the next weekend off from travel before heading back on the road to Bangor, Maine for the Husson Invitational hosted by Husson University on Sat., Oct. 12th at Saxl Park.
