Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UMPI’s Comeback Bid Falls Just Shy as Terriers Win a Thriller

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team continued their exciting season when they hosted the Thomas College Terriers for an important North Atlantic Conference clash. The Owls threatened a couple of times early but struggled to keep that momentum going as Thomas took a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 35th minute. It looked as though the Terriers would cruise to a victory, scoring again in the 56th minute to a 2-0 lead.

They took that lead all the way down to about the 10-minute mark when Madelynn Morrow broke free and used her speed to get a one-on-one look with the keeper. She buried the shot to cut the Thomas lead in half with less than 10 minutes to go. Fans barely had time to blink before Alexis Ireland went up for a 50/50 ball with the Terriers goalkeeper. Ireland got to it first and was able to volley the ball into the wide-open net, tying the game at two less than 30 seconds after Morrow scored and sending Park Family Field into a frenzy.

The intensity of the game was high from there on out. The Terriers knocked on the door a couple of times until the 88th minute when they scored an unbelievable goal off a set piece and a great header. This proved to be the difference, and the Terriers went on to win by the score of 3-2.

UMPI was led offensively all day by their two goal scorers. Ireland had 7 shots and three on goal while Morrow had 4 shots with 2 on goal. The Owls put up 15 shots as a team to Thomas's 12, although the Terriers were more slightly more accurate with 9 shots on frame to UMPI's 7.

In goal for UMPI, Mia Voisine saved 6 shots, and continues her impressive Freshman campaign.

The Owls fall to an even .500 on the year with a 3-3-1 record overall. They are now 1-3-1 in the NAC East. Their conference schedule won't get any easier over the next couple of games as they travel to Husson University next Tuesday for a 7:30pm start time.
