BANGOR, METhe UMPI Women's Soccer team's 2024 season has been an interesting one full of ups and downs and tight games. The Owls continued that trend when they traveled to Husson for their second matchup of the year. The Eagles took the first one decisively, winning 4-0, after the game being tied at halftime. This time it followed a similar trajectory.
Husson scored almost directly off the kick-off, at the 43 second mark to go up 1-0 and it looked to everyone that Husson would have their way from the jump. UMPI didn't panic however and were able to answer at the 5:01 mark when Madelynn Morrow was able to fire a beautiful shot from the left side of the 18-yard box that found its way to the upper right corner of the net. Morrow's shot tied the game up and was her sixth goal of the season, putting her in sole possession of second place in the conference in goals.
Despite the tie score, Husson still dominated the game and would continue to do so the rest of the way. The Owls were able to keep them off the board in the first half and the game remained tied. In the second half, the Eagles were able to break through in the 49th minute, and then shortly after in the 53rd minute to make it 3-1.
Husson was relentless throughout, putting up 38 shots, 16 on goal, to UMPI's 2 total shots. Both of UMPI's came from Madelynn Morrow.
Mia Voisine had 13 saves on the evening, as she continues to lead the conference in that category by a wide margin.
UMPI falls to 3-4-1, and 1-4-1 in conference. The Owls will hope to get more opportunities offensively when they travel to play Lesley University for the second time this year on Saturday at 3pm.
