AUBURN, ME (Sept. 21st, 2024) - The University of Maine at Presque Isle's men's & women's cross country program laced it up for the first time in the 2024 season as the Owls toed the line at the Maine State Championship hosted by Bates College at the Roy Family Bates Course.

The men's 8K race saw the Owls take 10th overall on the team leaderboard with 238 points, while the women's 6K race featured four UMPI student-athletes competing and finishing.
UMPI's first runner to cross the finish line for the men was junior
Westley Dyer clocking in at 29:52, earning 40 points for the Owls. A flock of four listed freshmen runners in
David Gustin, Hector Perez, Isiah Mitchell and
Nick Anderson supported Dyer's effort.
On the women's end of things for the Owls, freshman
Angeline Beede collected a 35:21 finish to lead the way for UMPI. A trio of freshmen in Mikayla Buchanan & Avery Vonkadich, as well as junior
Serena Lufkin, added to Beede's effort for the Owls making it a successful day for the squad.
This was the first outing for the XC team under the leadership of head coach Raymond Putnam.
The Owls are back on the course again next weekend on Sept. 28th at the Thomas Invite. The women's race is expected to begin at 10am, with the men following at approximately 11am.
