UMPI Men’s Soccer Adds 5 Talented Players to the 2024 Roster

Presque Isle, Maine - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's soccer team has added 5 more talented players to their roster as they prepare for the start of the 2024 season.  Joel Cormier and Micah Daigle from Fort Fairfield, Maine, Samuel Paladino from Poland, Maine, Stefan Pinate from Houston, Texas and Ethan Cameron from Fort Lauderdale, Florida will all join the Owls program after completing highly successful high school and club soccer seasons.

Joel Cormier and Micah Daigle both had outstanding soccer careers at Fort Fairfield High School and helped lead the Tigers to the Class D Northern Maine Championship game in 2023.  Both were also selected to the Class D Northern Maine and Aroostook County All Star Teams.  Cormier excelled as a central midfielder while Daigle played both Center Back and striker during their 4-year high school careers. Tiger Head Coach John Ala is confident that both Joel and Micah can step in and have an immediate impact on the success of the Owls team next fall with their skill, athletic ability and knowledge of the game.  Cormier plans to study Biological Science while Daigle will be an education major.

Samuel Paladino, a goalkeeper, joins the Owls after leading the Poland High School Knights to the best record in the school's history during the 2023 season.  Paladino was selected to the Western Maine Class B All Conference 1st team his senior year and was a 2nd team selection in 2022.  One of Sam's best assets in goal is his ability to build his teams attack out of the back with his outstanding foot skills and ability to see the field.  Sam plans to study Business for the Owls and is excited to become a part of the UMPI soccer family in the coming years.

Stefan Pinate is an athletic defender from Houston, Texas who played for both the Sharptown International Spartans and the Houston Dynasty during his high school and club careers.  In 2022 Pinate helped lead the Knights to the District Championship.  Stefan's speed, athletic ability and aggressive play will help him transition quickly to the collegiate game.  Stefan plans to study Business Administration and is extremely excited to join his new teammates on the field in the coming weeks.

Ethan Cameron comes to the Owls from Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he played for St. Thomas Aquinas High School and the Plantation FC Football club.  Ethan is an aggressive and explosive striker who can create numerous scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates with his defensive pressure up front and ability to take on defenders.  During the 2023-24 club season Ethan was selected as Plantation FC's Player of the Year.  When asked about Ethan, Plantation FC Head Coach Nigel Hudson stated "Ethan is a remarkable individual who has demonstrated outstanding dedication, skill and commitment to the sport of soccer.  He is not only an exceptional athlete but also and outstanding student who will make a great addition to the UMPI soccer team as well as the University community.

U-Maine Presque Isle Head Soccer Coach Alan Gordon is extremely excited to add such a talented group of players to the Owls roster "I am confident that these young men have the athletic ability, skill, and experience to step in and make an immediate impact on the success of our team.  I am looking forward to seeing them take the field with their new teammates this coming fall."
