Owls Split with Beavers in Doubleheader

11-4 Win Over Beavers in Game 1

FARMINGTON, ME —- UMPI (3-25) took on Farmington (9-28) for a makeup doubleheader to finish out this 2024 season.

Game 1 (11-4 Owls)

How it happened:
UMPI did what they've been yearning to do for a long time: jump out to an early lead. Clutch two out hitting in the first inning helped them score three runs. They also scored three in the second as well to Farmington's 1 in the first and the Owls were up 6-1. They stayed in the lead and added on with a big 5th inning, tacking on five more. It was smooth sailing until the 7th when Farmington's late three run rally proved too little too late and the Owls captured an 11-4 victory.

At the Plate:
After laying dormant for their weekend series against first place Husson, the Owls bats rose from the dead in this game scoring 11 runs on 11 hits. Four players recorded multiple hits. Timmy Burns went 2 for 4 with a two run homer and 3 RBI. Garrett Chadwick also went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as well. Payton Jones and Mason Long each had two singles as well.

On the Mound:
Spencer Harman made his second start of the year against the Beavers having won the prior outing with a complete nine-inning game performance. Harman would continue this success against UMF, going the complete game once again. He tossed 7 innings, allowing just one earned run on eight hits, striking out three. He hurled 97 pitches in his second win of the season.

Game 2 (5-2 Beavers)

How it happened:
UMPI struggled to score in this one after having much success in the first game. The game was a stalemate for a couple innings until Timmy Burns broke the tie with a two run homer in the third. Farmington responded with two the next half, and then took their first lead with a solo home run by Jameson Bloch in the fifth. They picked up two extra insurance runs in the sixth and never looked back winning 5-2.

At the Plate:
The Owls struggled to find gaps in this game recording just four hits as a team. Timmy Burns had the only two RBI with his aforementioned second home run of the day. Four players each recorded one hit. Joey Lippo, Garrett Chadwick, and Ricky Goupille had the other three hits for the Owls—all singles.

On the Mound:
In the last game of the year for the Owls, Payton Jones took the hill. In his last career outing, he would turn in yet another quality start, worthy enough of a win. He had a lot of Farmington hitters on their heels as he struck out 8 batters and walking just one in his six innings of work. Although the result fell just short of what Jones hoped for, he kept the Owls in it the whole way.

The Owls finish their season with four wins, and look forward to building the program in the coming years.
