ORONO, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Ise Owls hosted the Eastern Nazarene Lions at the new U-Maine Softball Complex due to weather conditions.
Game 1 (13-5, Owls)
How it happened:
In the first game, UMPI found themselves behind early as the Lions took a quick 2-0 lead in the first. A two-run single by Gracelyn Walsh tied the game in the bottom of two. The UMPI bats stayed hot as they scored another three runs in the second off a couple of doubles, coming from Dalaney Anfinson and another by Walsh. The Lions would tie the game again before the Owls bats got red hot in the fourth. An impressive eight-run inning would come off four hits, including two homers by Walsh and Rachel Billings and eventually giving UMPI the big lead.
At the Plate:
UMPI's bats stirred up 11 hits on the game while being walked eight times. Homers by Walsh and Billings highlighted the hits. Although, three doubles accounted for three of the UMPI's runs early in the game.
On the Mound:
Megan Buchholz earned another win on the mound for UMPI, pitching the complete 5-inning game. Allowing just four hits and four earned runs in the 21 batters faced.
Game 2 (19-8 Lions)
How it happened:
Following game 1 was a rally from the Lions along with the rain. The teams started off similar to game one with a pair of runs each, sitting at 2-2 before the Owls began to rally. A four-run third inning by UMPI game them a three-run lead before adding another in the four off a double by Dalaney Anfinson. Following the Owls rally, the rain would come out of nowhere and along with the rain came the runs for the lions. A 10-run inning by the lions in the fifth game them a 13-6 lead, before they boosted it again in the seventh.
At the Plate:
The Owls bats stayed hot early in the game before going quiet. Finishing the game with nine hits and six RBI's. Anfinson and Rachel Billings each finished with two hits, including a double for each of them. Gracelyn Walsh also recorded a double, hitting in two runs.
On the Mound:
Walsh pitched the complete game for the Owls, starting off great before letting up a number of walks and hits late in the game. Eventually letting up 13 earned runs and walking 12 batters.
